A properly designed pump room ventilation system should achieve the following:
Maintain acceptable indoor temperature for pumps, motors, VFDs, panels, and maintenance personnel.

Avoid short-circuiting between supply and exhaust openings.

For critical pump rooms such as fire pump rooms, diesel fire pump rooms, chilled water plant pump rooms, or basement pump rooms, the design must be based on engineering calculation rather than rule-of-thumb only.
