Pre-Filters, Fine Filters and HEPA Filters: Where Each One Belongs

In HVAC and ventilation systems, filtration is not only about “clean air.” It is about protecting equipment, maintaining indoor air quality, reducing maintenance problems, controlling contamination risk, and ensuring that the right level of cleanliness is achieved without wasting energy.

A good filtration system normally uses filtration stages. Each filter has a job. Pre-filters capture larger dust particles. Fine filters remove smaller suspended particles. HEPA filters are used where very high air cleanliness is required, such as hospitals, laboratories, cleanrooms and sensitive manufacturing areas.

Using the wrong filter in the wrong place can create high pressure drop, poor airflow, increased fan energy, frequent clogging, poor indoor air quality, and even failure to meet health or process requirements. (Pre-Filters Fine Filters and HEPA Filters: Where Each One Belongs)
